Students: 2023 Scholarships and Student Night

Sacramento AEG Student Night & Jahn’s Lecture Meeting 2023

The AEG Sacramento Chapter is hosting its annual Student Night meeting on Wednesday, April 19th, 2023 in-person at Drake’s: The Barn in West Sacramento! Student Night encourages students from our regional universities to make valuable connections with working professionals and the meeting is a great opportunity for geology students to meet/interact with professional geologists in the environmental & engineering geology fields. Student attendance is free and we strongly encourage professionals to attend and engage with students at this event. There will be a dinner, student poster presentations, and announcements of scholarship winners. Your first drink will also be included, courtesy of Gannett Flemming! Additionally, we will be hosting this year’s Jahn’s lecturer at the meeting, Vincent Cronin! Vincent will present on a student-oriented topic titled A Path from “Rocks for Jocks” to a Career in Engineering Geology.

Register for the meeting HERE.

Both students and professionals are highly encouraged to attend to provide the best experience possible. Registration is $30 for professional members, $50 for professional non-members. No registration fee for students but please register for headcount and our food order. The meeting is a great opportunity for geology students to interact with professional geologists in the environmental & engineering geology fields.

Please contact John Murphy, Chapter Chairperson (john.murphy@waterboards.ca.gov/aegsacto@gmail.com), or Matt Buche (mbuche@gfnet.com), Scholarships Chairperson, with any questions.

Student Poster Presentations & Best Poster Award Competition

We encourage students to display and present posters featuring their work at the meeting. Posters are the highlight of the night for everyone and an excellent opportunity for students to interact with prospective employers. The first eight students who sign up and display posters will be awarded $50. Attendees of the meeting will vote on the best poster, and the winner will receive an additional $100. Students who would like to present a poster only need to send me an email (mbuche@gfnet.com) with their poster’s title (working title is OK).
