This includes develop, oversee, interpret, and report on geologic investigations and geologic hazards for transportation related projects in the exciting and complex geology of southwestern Oregon. Duties include emergency geologic hazard response, subsurface investigations, analysis, and design for infrastructure, modelling (slope stability, kinematic analysis, rockfall, etc.), quarry management, and more. Position will work as part of the geology group often in collaboration with geotechnical engineers. An essential function of the position will be to coordinate with project managers, maintenance personnel, construction group, planners, contractors, consulting firms, and other federal, state, county, and city agencies.

The State Mining and Geology Board and the Department of Conservation are accepting applications for the position of State Geologist. The California State Geologist serves as the head of the California Geological Survey (CGS), one of the largest state surveys in the nation. CGS provides scientific products and services about the state’s geology, seismology, and mineral resources, including their related hazards, that affect the health, safety, and business interests of the people of California. It is one of the oldest geological surveys in the nation, and today produces more products and provides more services to more people than any other state survey.
Interested parties should submit a statement of interest and a completed Standard Form 678 (which may be supplemented by a resume) to the State Mining and Geology Board.

The new Post Fire Debris Flow Hazard Program will fill a critical need in Washington for assessment of landslide hazards in areas affected by wildfires.
