    The primary purpose of this role is to provide all necessary geologic information and guidance on ODOT projects. This includes develop, oversee, interpret, and report on geologic investigations and geologic hazards for transportation related projects in the exciting and complex geology of southwestern Oregon. Duties include emergency geologic hazard response, subsurface investigations, analysis, and design for infrastructure, modelling (slope stability, kinematic analysis, rockfall, etc.), quarry management, and more. Position will work as part of the geology group often in collaboration with geotechnical engineers. An essential function of the position will be to coordinate with project managers, maintenance personnel, construction group, planners, contractors, consulting firms, and other federal, state, county, and city agencies.

    ODOT has an opening for a Region 4 Geo Tech Expert / Hazmat in Bend. The primary purpose of this position is to act as the Engineering and Economic Geology technical expert and lead-worker for the Central and Eastern Oregon Region’s (C&EOR). This position will coordinate, schedule and evaluate Engineering and Economic geology work for an area spanning approximately 2/3rds of the state land mass, from the summit of the Cascades east to the Idaho State line.

  • The State Mining and Geology Board and the Department of Conservation are accepting applications for the position of State Geologist. The California State Geologist serves as the head of the California Geological Survey (CGS), one of the largest state surveys in the nation. CGS provides scientific products and services about the state’s geology, seismology, and mineral resources, including their related hazards, that affect the health, safety, and business interests of the people of California. It is one of the oldest geological surveys in the nation, and today produces more products and provides more services to more people than any other state survey.

    Interested parties should submit a statement of interest and a completed Standard Form 678 (which may be supplemented by a resume) to the State Mining and Geology Board.

    Pursuant to California Public Resource Code section 677, the State Mining and Geology Board considers candidate’s qualifications and nominates candidates for potential appointment as State Geologist.   • The Washington Geological Survey is looking for a self-motivated, experienced, and enthusiastic senior geologist with a passion for post-fire landslide hazards to develop and lead a new program within the Survey. The new Post Fire Debris Flow Hazard Program will fill a critical need in Washington for assessment of landslide hazards in areas affected by wildfires. This position will be responsible for planning and leading post-wildfire emergency assessments of geologic and hydrologic hazards, installing and maintaining post-fire monitoring equipment, and developing pre- and post-fire geologic and hydrologic maps and models for planning purposes. This position also provides technical assistance to local and state agencies regarding planning and mitigating post-wildfire geologic and hydrologic hazards. The new program will sit within the Survey’s Landslide Hazard Program, an active and growing team of geologists and geoscientists dedicated to understanding landslide hazards in Washington.
